Belt Conveyor Idler Fault Detection System Based on uwDAS Cable and Fiber Optic Microphone Combined Sensing

Abstract

To address fault detection of belt conveyor idlers under strong interference and long-distance conditions, a detection system combining fiber optic microphones and uwDAS distributed optical cables is proposed. Fiber optic microphones are deployed at high-vibration areas while optical cables are laid along the conveyor belt perimeter. VMD-based noise reduction enables clear fault feature extraction. Results show 350 rad/s phase change at idler fault positions and up to 350× spectral energy increase in microphone signals.
