Distributed Strain Sensing Fiber Optic Cable Based on Ultra-Weak Fiber Bragg Gratings

Abstract

A distributed strain sensing fiber optic cable based on FRP encapsulation for UW-FBG arrays is proposed. The cable addresses low transfer efficiency, strain dead zones, and chirping issues. The ultra-weak fiber grating array with 0.2m pitch was hot-pultruded with glass fiber to make a 1.0mm FRP sensing fiber. Tensile tests show strain transfer efficiency >99.0%, repeatability error <1.49%, and linearity >0.999.

Specifications

  • Strain Transfer Efficiency: >99.0%
  • Repeatability Error: <1.49%
  • Linearity: >0.999
  • Grating Pitch: 0.2m
  • FRP Diameter: 1.0mm
